Who we are

YOKE is a marketplace that connects people and businesses who own tools and equipment with people nearby who want to hire them. We operate in the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland.

YOKE is not a party to the hire itself. The agreement to hire a tool is between the owner and the renter. Our role is to list tools, take payment, hold a security deposit where one applies, and help resolve problems.

Your account

You must be at least 18 and provide accurate details. You are responsible for everything done through your account, so keep your password to yourself.

We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, misrepresents a tool, or puts other members at risk.

Listing a tool

• You must own the tool, or be authorised to hire it out.
• At least one genuine photograph of the actual tool is required. Stock images and illustrations are not acceptable.
• You must confirm the tool is safe to use, in working condition, and accurately described. That confirmation is recorded against the listing.
• The description, condition and price must be truthful and kept up to date.
• You must not list anything you are not legally permitted to hire out.

Hiring a tool

When you request a booking, your card is authorised for the full amount but not charged. The owner then accepts or declines. If they accept, the payment is taken. If they decline, or do not respond before the authorisation lapses, nothing is taken.

You must use the tool safely, for its intended purpose, and return it on the agreed date in the condition you received it, allowing for normal wear.

What you pay

• The rental price, set by the owner.
• A YOKE service fee of 10% of the rental price.
• A refundable security deposit, where the owner has set one. See the Deposit Policy.

What is not allowed

• Arranging payment outside YOKE for a booking that started here.
• Listing tools you do not have, or that you know to be faulty or unsafe.
• Harassing, threatening or abusing other members.
• Using someone else's account, or creating accounts to leave false reviews.

Our liability

We provide the platform as it is. We do not guarantee that a tool will be fit for your purpose, that a booking will go ahead, or that another member will behave as they should.

YOKE does not provide insurance of any kind, and does not guarantee that you will be reimbursed for loss or damage. Nothing here limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited, including for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or for fraud.

Changing these terms

We may update these terms. Material changes get a new version number, and you will be asked to accept the new version before you next book or list. Your acceptance of each version is recorded with the date.

Law

These terms are governed by the law of the Republic of Ireland. If you live in Northern Ireland, you keep the benefit of any mandatory consumer protections available to you there.
