Rental Agreement
The terms of the hire itself, between the owner and the renter.
Version 1.1 · Updated 26 August 2026
What this covers
This agreement applies to every booking made through YOKE. It is between the owner of the tool and the renter. YOKE is not a party to it — we provide the platform, handle the money, and mediate if something goes wrong.
Who is responsible for what
- The owner is responsible for the tool being safe, in working order, and as described — including faults that already existed when it was handed over, and for normal wear and tear from ordinary use.
- The renter is responsible for damage, loss or theft caused by misuse, neglect, unsafe operation, use for an unintended purpose, or failure to return the tool.
- The renter must operate the tool competently and lawfully, use appropriate protective equipment, and stop using it if it becomes unsafe.
- YOKE acts as marketplace and mediator. We review the evidence both sides record and reach a decision on any deposit. We do not decide legal liability between you.
Collection and return
Agree a time and place with the other party through YOKE messages. Both of you should record the condition of the tool in photographs at collection and again at return.
Those photographs are the evidence we look at if there is a disagreement. Without them, a damage claim is very difficult to resolve fairly.
Late returns
Return the tool on the agreed end date. If you need longer, agree it with the owner first. A tool that is not returned may be treated as lost, and the owner may claim against the deposit.
Insurance
YOKE does not provide insurance and does not guarantee reimbursement for loss, theft or damage. The security deposit is the only financial protection built into a booking.
Owners should check whether their own insurance covers hiring out equipment. Renters should check whether their own insurance covers hired equipment. Neither is provided by us.
If something goes wrong
Talk to the other party first — most problems are settled that way. If you cannot agree, report the issue through YOKE with photographs and an explanation, and we will review it under the Damage & Dispute Policy.
